RANE

RANE Corporation, founded in 1981 by seasoned audio engineers, was built on a shared commitment to smarter design and uncompromising performance. From its first four products for live performers, RANE quickly redefined the mid‑priced audio market—delivering high‑end reliability without the high‑end cost. Within just two years, the company introduced eight groundbreaking products, setting the tone for decades of innovation.

DJ

RANE entered the DJ mixer market at the request of legendary disco sound designer Richard Long of RLA—known for shaping the audio at icons like Studio 54, Annabel’s, and Regine’s. Impressed by RANE’s engineering, Long asked the team to modernize his renowned X3000 crossover, resulting in the exclusive X3000A, along with their co‑designed Q5000 DJ EQ. This partnership inspired RANE to explore DJ mixers, leading to the creation of the MP24, which quickly became the industry standard.

Turntablism

Following the success of the MP24, RANE continued innovating in the DJ market. At the 1998 AES show in New York, a group of elite turntablists introduced the team to the art of scratching and invited them to a hands‑on session in Spanish Harlem. Inspired by their talent and trust, RANE designers worked side‑by‑side with top performers to define every detail of a new battle mixer. Over three days of collaboration, the foundation of the TTM 54 Performance Mixer was created—RANE’s first hip‑hop battle mixer and one of the most successful products in the company’s history.

Present Day

The rapid evolution of DJ mixing is absolutely mind-boggling. When RANE began, they never imagined how huge the world of music mixing would become. Disco clubs of the 70s and 80s featured basic blending. Now the genres, techniques and methods have exploded into endless possibilities. The mixer is no longer just a tool, but instead, has become a musical instrument, a vehicle for self-expression. Applications for DJ mixers have gone far beyond what was originally envisioned. There may soon be as many styles of DJ mixers as there are types of guitars. The evolution isn’t over! New mixing styles continue to evolve, driving new demands on both performance and features. The lessons RANE learned early have served them well during this rapid evolution.
