If you hadn’t had enough ESP yet, here’s some highlights of their final 2020 LTD guitars drop ahead of the NAMM 2020 trade show and, as you can see, they’ve saved some of the most exciting announcements ’til last!
First up, a whole new series of guitars dubbed the ’87 series. ESP state that “ESP is celebrating our 45th anniversary in 2020, having gotten our start in 1975 as a small instrument repair shop in Tokyo. However, it was really toward the mid 1980s when our guitars and basses grabbed the attention of players around the world. The LTD ’87 Series are faithful recreations of that first full set of ESP instruments.”
Check out the ’87 Eclipse below, totally different shape to the modern ESP Eclipse line, but apparently that’s where they started. The ’87 Eclipse will come in two versions, one with Floyd Rose, one without. Available in black, pearl white or turquoise. ]
Then there’s this shred machine, the Mirage Deluxe ’87 available in Pearl Pink and Turquoise. These feature a Floyd Rose 1000 bridge, Seymour Duncan Distortion TB-6 in the bridge and a Seymour Duncan Hot Rail at the neck. Bad ass.
On the bass front, the Surveyor ’87 returns to a more classic look and sound with a Gotoh 201-B4 bridge and a Seymour Duncan Vintage P/ Vintage Jazz pickup set. Available in black or pearl white.
On the Signature series front, the biggest news is the brand new NS-6 from Nergal of the legendary Behemoth. Designed in the unique Stream body shape, the Black Satin guitar features Fishman Fluence Modern Humbucker pickups with a push pull tone pot that accesses two tones from the pickups dubbed ‘Modern Active’ and ‘Modern Passive Attack’.
Then there’s the luxurious looking JR-208 8 string baritone guitar for Javier Reyes from Animals as Leaders, in Pelham Blue with gold hardware. IT features a 27″ scale, mahogany body, bolt on maple neck, ESP designed LH-308N and LH-308B pickups and an LTD fixed bridge with string-thru-body.
ESP are celebrating 20 years of Stephen Carpenter (Deftones) being on board as an endorsed artist for 20 years by releasing his original LTD SC-20 in Sonic Blue.
And yes, they’ve still got more guitars coming out in various other series’ too! In our last article will celebrated the return of the ESP LTD Phoenix — now they’ve announced the Phoenix shape will also be made in their minimal-style Black Metal series. As you can see, it’s probably one of the toughest lookin’ guitars ever made. All-black finish, components, and hardware, a single premium-quality pickup, Macassar ebony fingerboards with no inlays and glow-in-the-dark side markers. So nice.
There’s plenty more we haven’t mentioned, head to ESP’s site here for their Phase 3 2020 announcement.
