Take 5 With Peter Wohlrab

We chat Peter Wohlrab a Front of House (FOH) engineer based in Newcastle with All AV Tech Services.
1) Could you tell us a bit about your background in audio engineering and what first sparked your passion for live sound?
I have been mixing live sound for 25 years for many diffrent settings from pubs to clubs and festivals. What got me into sound.... would have to be the obsession of speakers and how they connect with the air and make sound . Like how can such a small mass of cardboard shake a building!
2) Walk us through your recent show. How did tonight’s experience differ from others?
I have recently had the joy of mixing on the new JBL SRX900 for a few shows. After sound check thinking that pa fit in my van and rocked cleaner, louder and further than I thought a small ground stack should have. Fell in love with it from the first sound that came out to the rigging it, was just easy.
3) Which feature or aspect of the gear impressed you the most, and why?
The size and weight is everything. It punched above its size and weight class all the way.
4) Which piece of equipment or software could you not imagine working without, and why?
The best mixing console may be the best but a great speaker system that suits the environment and room is everything
5) Any advice for up-and-comers looking to get into the industry?
Go for it, learn how to mix , learn how sound works. Remember someone somewhere is mixing a bigger show than you and making a mess of it.
