The S4 is, without doubt the best-implemented solution for Traktor we've seen to date. However, that's almost a given. Due to the reputation NI have created for themselves, the majority of Traktor Pro, Kontrol X1, Scratch or even Maschine users will already know the S4 is a quality product before they even try it. One thing is for sure, if you do take the plunge and commit to the S4, you won't be disappointed. Traktor users are now officially spoiled for choice.

The S4 is a powerful device that is nearly perfect in many ways. If it was a bit smaller and lighter, I would probably switch permanently to it for road gigs. The new sample recorder controls and clear sound card make it very difficult to leave behind. As I’m writing this review, it’s stored above me in the overhead compartment on our way to play a show in Hawaii, and I suspect you will start to see a lot of these around small clubs and mobile gigs soon.

I'm impressed with both the S2 and S4. They work flawlessly with Traktor 3 and provide an enjoyable playing experience. It might take you a bit to fully understand the S4, as you are able to really dive deep into Traktor with it, which in itself will require time to learn as well. If you are looking to get a DJ controller to use with Traktor, that retains a club standard layout, I would say that these are your best options.
